6 Spices You Need In Your Cupboard
Coriander
All rounder, the base of almost everything from most parts of the world - totally delicious
Cumin
Distinctive fragrance that is so familiar - I add cumin to all sorts, even baked eggs!
Cinnamon
Sweet spice - great for savoury and sweet dishes
Turmeric
That synonymous yellow spice! Subtle fragrant flavour but a great way to add colour to dishes (great, cheap alternative to saffron!!!) - make sure you keep the top on the jar, a turmeric spillage can take weeks to clear up! Also a great anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties!
Hot Smoked Paprika
I adore this spice! Paprika is dried ground red peppers - it’s a pretty universal spice that can transport you all over the world. I’ve chosen the hot smoked version. A little kick of heat and smokiness adds instant excitement to any dish!
Fennel Seeds
The ultimate all rounder for me - goes on almost everything and adds an incredible fragrance to almost anything - incredible on a big joint of roast pork on a Sunday!
Pretty much every persons spice cupboard at home is the same! Jars and jars of spices and dried herbs sat there, unused for so long they have price stickers that are in 3 parts (remember, the ones that seemed like they were stuck on with super glue) from a supermarket chain that shut down in the mid-90s. You’d seen a recipe you wanted to cook, bought a ton of herbs and spices and never used them again!
Save money, time and keep that cupboard more organised! Keep it simple - these 6 spices will take you to almost anywhere in the world and I promise you, they are the spices you will use!
Buy them whole and you can toast and crush - total flavour bomb. If you don’t fancy that bit of extra work, get them ground and they are ready to go in anything!
